The 718 Modular Shelving System
Conceived in Brooklyn in 2018, made by Brooklyn Home Lab ever since.
Brooklyn Home Lab sells direct — no showroom markup, no middlemen. Everyone pays the same fair price. We don't do seasonal sales or promotional discounts. The price is the price.
The 718 System is built around five principles your furniture should live by:
Every Brooklyn Home Lab customer is paired with a personal planner — a real human based in Brooklyn who knows the 718 System inside out. They earn a salary, not commission. Their only goal is to get your space exactly right.
Your planner will review your space, suggest configurations, and send you a detailed quote. Most customers work with the same planner for years — through moves, new rooms, and growing families.
"Two apartments and five years later, I'm still working with Maya. She remembered exactly what I had and knew what to add." — Theo R., Bed-Stuy
The 718 System is built around a powder-coated steel E-Track — the same track in every wall-mounted, compressed, and freestanding configuration. Uprights, shelves, drawers, desktops, and cabinets all click into the same system.
Choose from two bay widths: 24 inches (ideal for tighter walls) and 36 inches (our most popular). Combine them for 27 distinct configurations across a standard NYC wall.

The 718 System was designed by Marcus Webb, a Brooklyn-born industrial designer who spent a decade studying the great modular furniture systems of the 20th century before setting out to build something new — something made for the specific constraints and character of New York apartments.
Webb's guiding principle: furniture should be honest about what it is. No veneers. No hidden complexity. Every component is what it looks like, does what it says, and can be repaired by the person who owns it.
Brooklyn Home Lab holds the exclusive design and manufacturing rights to the 718 System. It is made in small batches in our Red Hook workshop.
The 718 System adapts to your walls — and to walls you don't want to touch.
The classic. Track mounts directly into studs or masonry. The cleanest look.
Track mounts high on the wall with a floor foot at the base. Minimal wall contact.
Spring-tensioned floor-to-ceiling. Zero wall holes. Ideal for renters.
Fully independent unit. Move it anywhere. Works as a room divider.
All components are available in six standard finishes. Mix and match freely.
Every component made today is compatible with every component we've ever made. If a shelf bracket breaks in ten years, we'll send you a new one. If we ever discontinue a component, we'll manufacture a bridge piece so your system keeps working.
We don't do model years. We don't do limited editions. We don't redesign for the sake of it.
"I'll never need to buy other shelves. I just add to what I have when I need more. It moves with me every time I move." — Simone L., Prospect Heights
Our prices are fixed. No seasonal sales, no promo codes, no loyalty discounts. If you buy today and we lower a price tomorrow (rare), we'll credit the difference.

Send us a few measurements and photos of your space. Don't worry about being precise — your planner will guide you.
Tell us what you store, how you work, and how you live. Your planner will translate that into a configuration.
We'll send a detailed layout drawing and itemized quote. No obligation to proceed. No expiry date on the quote.
We deliver throughout NYC and the tri-state area. All deliveries are made by our own team — not a third-party courier. We carry your order up the stairs, we take away all packaging, and we leave no mess.
Professional installation is available on every order. Our installers know the 718 System completely. They've installed it in pre-war walk-ups, concrete lofts, and every configuration in between.
"The installation team was on time, incredibly careful with our walls, and done in under two hours. I expected it to take all day." — Daniel K., Carroll Gardens
Standard lead time is 6–8 weeks from order to installation. Rush orders (4 weeks) are available on select configurations at an additional fee. Your planner will confirm lead time when you submit your inquiry.
No. Our prices are honest from the start. A sale would mean our normal price is dishonest. We don't do that.
Yes — and many customers do. We include full installation instructions with every order, and your planner can walk you through the process. That said, professional installation is available if you'd prefer.
Our compressed (floor-to-ceiling) configuration requires zero wall holes and leaves no marks. It's the most popular choice for renters and works in any apartment with 8–12 foot ceilings.
Absolutely — that's the whole point. Components made today are compatible with components made in 2018. Your order history is on file with your planner and we can always extend your system seamlessly.
We replace it. Every component is available individually. Contact your planner or reach us directly and we'll sort it out.
Tell us about your apartment. A Brooklyn Home Lab planner will get back to you within one business day — with no obligation to buy.
